THE HOUSE OF MANNING

Drew couple open legendary QB's home

Take a trip down memory lane to a small town in the Mississippi Delta in the 1960s, to a town with a population of less than 3,000.

It’s a place where everybody knows everybody and kids run throughout the town without the fears that we have today.

There are more farm fields than there are stores, and downtown is the epicenter of the small town.

When Friday nights rolled around in the fall, the town emptied to the football field where they watched a young budding star named Elisha Archibald Manning.

Colts Lose in Overtime

With the amount of points scored in a basketball game, it’s amazing that games go into overtime.

From the NBA to college everyone needs extra time to decide a winner from time to time.

Private school is no different as Bayou Academy went into an overtime thriller with Humphreys Academy, with the Rebels coming out on top with 45-42 final.

“We won this game on the defensive end of the floor.” Humphreys coach Joe Taylor said. “We got turnovers when we needed to and some big shots late in the game that is what you want out of young team.”

Lady Falcons Down ESHS

It was not a fast moving game Friday night as the East Side Trojanettes (2-8) dropped yet another home game, this time to the Velma Jackson Lady Falcons (8-4) with a final of 40-35.
At many points in the first half of the game, the ball did not move at all. The Lady Falcons, after some failed shot attempts, decided their strategy to stay in the game would be to stall and let the clock run out.

“We were struggling to score and I didn’t want them to run away from us,” Head Coach Tameivika Brown said.

Lady Colts Avenge Loss to Humphreys

Last week, Bayou Academy lost to district rival Humphreys Academy 47-45.

Friday night the Lady Colts got their revenge in a 51-41 victory.

“This win was big for us because they beat us last week,” Bayou coach Mike Johnson. “You can’t lose to somebody twice and expect to beat them in the standings.”
